Actor, Director and Writer Lou Diamond Phillips has joined the fight against Lyme Disease and offered to help raise awareness
for the disease at Time For Lyme’s bi-annual gala fundraiser, The Dream – Creating a Lyme Free World, on April 18, 2009.
The Dream Gala, one of the largest Lyme Disease fundraisers in the world will be held at the Hyatt Regency, in Greenwich, CT.
Proceeds from the Gala will go towards combating the devastating effects of Lyme and other tick borne illnesses.
“Lyme disease is one of the fastest growing infectious diseases in the world,” said Cathy Rubin, Co-Chair of the 2009 Time For Lyme Dream Gala. “We are very excited that an artist as diverse and talented as Lou Diamond Phillips has agreed to support us and, we greatly look forward to working with him during the coming months to build further awareness for this global cause.”

Phillips is featured in the Steven Soderbergh film, CHE, which co-stars Benicio Del Toro and Benjamin Bratt. He also stars in the upcoming film, THE INVITED, to be directed by Ryan McKinney.
Philips first gained widespread attention starring as Richie Valens in LA BAMBA, and solidified his reputation in STAND AND DELIVER, for which he received a Best Supporting Actor Golden Globe nomination and a Best Supporting Actor Independent Spirit Award. He has starred in such films as YOUNG GUNS I and II, RENEGADES, and COURAGE UNDER FIRE. He made his directorial debut with DANGEROUS TOUCH, a psychological thriller that he co-wrote.
Phillips’ extensive theater credits include THE KING AND I (for which he earned a Tony nomination for Best Actor), WHOSE LIFE IS IT ANYWAY?, DOCTOR FAUSTUS, and HAMLET.
