PENNSYLVANIA BRIEFING, NOVEMBER 4TH, 2011

On November 4th, Time for Lyme held a free educational seminar at Bucknell University, for students, staff and area residents. The briefing was attended by over 100 people who heard from a distinguished panel including front-line researchers, a primary care practitioner, the Monroe County Director of Vector Control, and a Bucknell student who has been impacted by Lyme disease.

The distinguished panel consisted of:

Cathy Curran Myers, Esq, Executive Director of the Bucknell University Environmental Center, who served as moderator and introduced the speakers;

Jacquelyn A. Hakim, MS, MPH, the Director of Monroe County Vector Control who gave a briefing on Ticks in the Environment and Prevention;

John Aucott, MD, member of the clinical Faculty of Medicine at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine who leads the SLICE longitudinal study who outlined promising areas in the development of new therapies;

Brian Fallon, MD, MPH, Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and Director of the Lyme and Tick-Borne Diseases Research Center at the Columbia University Medical Center whose research focuses on neuropsychiatry;

Harold Smith, MD, a primary care practitioner focusing on chronic Lyme disease, who spoke about the dilemma of diagnosing and treating chronic Lyme disease;

Bucknell University Student Sarah Hagerbrant who spoke of her experience with Lyme disease.
